On our home page we claim to depart from the normal, to question convention and to push the boundaries and we claim to offer an intellectually satisfying design aesthetic. Well here's the proof.
Because we couldn't find within this small room just 1.7M wide x 3.6M long a corner to place a shower, be it square, rectangle or any other shape, we set about constructing a pillar some 50cm x 15cm and from floor to ceiling (2.9M) upon which we could mount a shower and create a wetroom on one side whilst hanging a designer towel warming radiator on the other. But not content with that we decided to clad the pillar in mirrors; a challenge in itself as the mirrors had to be machined so all the radiator and shower pipes encased within the pillar would feed through. The mirrors bounce the daylight around and refllect well the Icaria Ocre porcelain tiles.
As with many jobs in the Lytham area we had to take the 4 walls and ceiling back to the brick and timber frame by removing the old lathe and plaster and reconstructing the room using waterproof plywoods and modern waterproof tile backer boards as well as having old and rotting floorboards up and screwing down plywoods capable of accepting porcelain tiles without the fear of movement and cracking in later years. What we call future-proofing.
The project took over 2 weeks because the room was just so small we could only have one trade in at a time but the clients were amazingly patient and whilst they understood that the design was a new departure for us and believed pushing the boundaries a bit can often be worrying they were hapy to go along with it, especially now when they see the end result.
