Mr & Mrs Lipman had always hankered after a new fitted kitchen with a centre island but previous companies that had surveyed had said that this wasn't possible and could only offer the clients more or less what they already had in design terms. We on the other hand identified what was at that point a bricked up fire place within a chimney breast and working with our structural engineer we opened up and widened the breast so that it would accept pull out larder units and the oven and microwave housing.
We also noticed the blinds were always partially closed on the window and this was, aside from the privacy issue, to hide the view of a brick wall and next doors garage. This of course made the room quite dark so we suggested taking out the full size window and bricking up the wall to leave a window just 400mm high but which was above next doors garage, caught all the afternoon sunshine and didn't need blinds so the end result was a much brighter and more cheerful room.
As you can see we fulfilled the clients aspirations as they now have a very exceptional kitchen with a versatile centre island large enough to stand and cook at and it comfortably seats four. Above the island we created a dropped ceiling with downlighters and a flush fit remote controlled extractor.
To the left of the sink is an integrated dishwasher at waist height for easy use and the refrigerator is integrated in the tall unit to the right of the sink. Above the sink are bridging units with illuminated glass bottoms for effective downlighting.
